This is my friend Anthea. While on her first solo trip in 2017, she accepted a ride from a stranger and was kidnapped and raped. The aftermath was overwhelming: PTSD, flashbacks, and the unbearable weight of simply existing in her body.
We met in 2020 on my group naked photoshoot, where I took on of my famous works « Rebirth of women » , it was a real “rebirth” later in 2021 she discovered freeediving as we went together to Raja Ampat and everything began to shift. In the water, she learned to meet discomfort with presence. It became a portal for healing, where she could feel free, safe, and whole again.
Since then, every time we’re together, something sacred and creative happens. She says she feels proud to be a woman, safe in her body, and seen. I learn a lot from her, I admire her absolute confidence and the kindest heart .
One of my favorite moments is the photo we took in June 2025 in a cenote - place the Mayans call a portal. In it, Anthea saw not just herself, but her reflection - the part of her that carried the pain, the hidden grief, the healing. She said that photo made her emotional, because it showed all of her - the broken and the whole - as beautiful.
The golden light in that image feels like hope: two versions of her meeting, becoming one.
